Apple MacBook Air 13" 1.7GHz Core i5/4GB(2x2)/128GB Flash

A truly mobile device needs to be light, thin and strong enough to take with you wherevere you go. It also needs to perform quickly, spring to life instantly and have enough battery power to keep up with you. It should have no spinning hard drive, no optical drive and no unnecessary parts... the exact description of the new MacBook Air. When MacBook Air first debuted, it was groundbreaking in many ways. Chief among them was the precision unibody enclosure. Now that same engineering process comes to the MacBook Air's display. Just like the main enclosure, the display housing is crafted from a single piece of aluminum, with all the structural elements machined directly into it. Total unibody construction means a less complex design with fewer parts. That makes MacBook Air exceptionally thin and light, yet still durable enough to handle the rigors of everyday use. MacBook Air is designed completely around flash storage, but in a totally different way. Typically, flash storage is housed in a package that’s the same size as a conventional hard drive. Yet the flash chips themselves occupy a very small portion of that housing. Getting rid of the hard drive enclosure and using only the parts that matter the actual flash chips frees up about 90 percent more space. And just like that, there’s room for other important things, like a bigger battery. Now you have a notebook that weighs practically nothing and runs for hours on a single charge. That’s mobility mastered.

I purchased the MacBook Air as a Christmas present to my wife, who is not technically savvy. She has been using her new computer daily, and her questions to me are minimal; I love Apple's ease of use and friendly applications.
One disappointment I encountered was not with MacConnection, but with Apple: I wanted to purchase a 'One-to-One' training subscription for her, but the folks at the store told me that 'One-to-One' is only available for in-store purchases. Not a good policy by Apple, I think.

While "sitting on the fence" trying to decide which MacBook I was going to purchase I read "all" the reviews, and they were spot on. Yes, a Mac is often twice the price of a PC, and my old, workhorse Toshiba laptop running XP is happily used everyday, but this 13" MacBook Air is a beautifully designed, built, easy to use laptop. As with many of the items in my life which give good service and I enjoy using; this Air is with me until it dies, or it will no longer run supported software. However, as one can see on eBay; even old Macs have value.

I am not really qualified to review this. I am a newbie to apple. It was highly reccommeneded by a good friend.
I love it, but it takes some getting used to as I am over 55 and don't care for change. I probably only use 1/10 of 1% of what this computer can do. Daily I find something new that it can do that my PC could not do. That is what impresses me. It really has quicker easier ways to do jobs.

Cons: macos lion has some rough edges and learning curve
The MacBook Air 13" is the best laptop I have ever used. It was an impulse buy for a new contract job I started with the intention to sell it once the contract is done at the end of the year. The combination of weight and battery life trump all other laptops out there. And while I expected to sacrifice performance, that may be true in benchmarks but in real life usage I have not been slowed down at all with any of the productivity software I have to use, plus Windows virtualization. My only disappointment is perhaps more with MacOS Lion - I have had issues with switching programs that are in full screen mode, and I find that coming out of sleep, the computer seems frozen for a lengthier moment than it should - or at least longer than was touted. But when running, this laptop is indeed fast, super light, and a real all day workhorse.

This mid-2011 MacBook Air ("MBA" for short) has the same display, same amount of memory, same amount of flash storage, and same Lion operating system as my late-2010 MBA. This new one is faster. (The late-2010 MBA was plenty fast enough running Snow Leopard, but it was merely satisfactory running Lion.) The backlit keyboard looks better than I expected.

I originally ordered one of these from Amazon, but after waiting nearly three weeks (they were out of stock) and seeing that Mac Connection got them in stock for only $15 more, I cancelled Amazon and ordered from here. After using my 1st generation Macbook Air for the last couple years, this new 2011 Macbook Air simply rocks in comparison. The speed is like a night and day difference. It boots up in about 10 seconds. At some tasks, it even bests my 2006 Mac Pro with 11GB of RAM! I am LOVING this new Macbook Air!

I'm still getting use to the MAC since I've always been a PC - I wouldn't be a good reviewer for "ease of use".
